Stratford TRSMD Diary

 1987

Yet another year of contraction, the year starting with the depot having 43 locomotives on its books, finishing with only 31. Electrification finally reached Norwich, with the four Class 47 diagrams finishing with the new timetable in May. Stratford continued to customise their locomotives with various combinations of silver roofs, sparrows and black marker light panels, although the work seemed to confer some hand of fate as the paint was hardly dry when the locomotives got transferred away. Sectorisation took hold in April, though to begin with it wasn't completely enforced. For Stratford the freight locos would speak for themselves generally not having the provision of ETH, and to begin with they were not restricted to the type of cargo they could move. ETH 47 fleet were divided between several sectors, with those allocated to InterCity sector leaving in May and those allocated to Departmental sector leaving in October. With the remainder of ETH fleet were allocated to the NSE sector and Parcels sector. The year saw several locomotives not normally associated with Stratford being transferred in and several having very short stays some only being on paper as some never made it even making it to East London wile allected to Stratford.
